An underseen rough-cut noir gem. Beverly Michaels’ sultry blonde blows into town and quickly hooks both the milquetoast tailor across the hall (ubiquitous character actor Percy Helton) and the hunky neighborhood barkeep (Richard Egan). The blonde and the barkeep strike sparks and scheme to double cross his alcoholic wife out of her bar and lam it, but nothing is ever that easy. After a wobbly first reel or two, Wicked Woman takes on the fervid energy of a lost James M. Cain yarn thanks to some deft direction from Russell Rouse and surprisingly frank sexual realpolitik for the Eisenhower era.
