Even Dwarfs Started Small

Werner Herzog’s second feature focuses on an isolated community of little people who, for reasons never made clear, succumb to escalating anarchy in the form of practical jokes, food fights, vandalism, and other forms of what can only be called shenanigans. That’s it. There’s no plot, and perhaps no point, but it’s hard to imagine a better primer for the director’s sui generis cinematic worldview. -LG
