THURSDAY, DECEMBER 2 9PM.
There’s a long tradition of films about groups of aimless young people wavering on the cusp of adulthood that all trace their roots back to Federico Fellini’s sublime I Vitelloni. A gang of small-town pals (Franco Fabrizi, Alberto Sordi, Franco Interlenghi, Riccardo Fellini, and Leopoldo Trieste) chase girls and dreams with mixed results. The director based the film, in part, on his own youth, and anyone who’s ever been stuck in the postadolescent doldrums will recognize the humor, compassion, and clear-eyed hindsight the director brings to it.
1953 Federico Fellini. 1.33:1 B&W dcp 104 min. In Italian with English subtitles.
