The Sound of Music

Saturday, July 23 11am (Earlier than usual start);
Monday, July 25 7pm.

The indelible songs, the romance, the whimsy, Julie Andrews at her most chastely adorable, the last-reel whiff of peril—all these things contribute to The Sound of Music’s generation-spanning reputation as an ironclad creampuff classic. But spare a kudo for Robert Wise. The old Hollywood pro lined up solid shot after solid shot, and paced the three-hour juggernaut like a film, oh, a half hour shorter. Also, it never hurts to be reminded that Nazis are bad. -LG
