Perhaps the most insanely soapy of Douglas Sirk’s lush melodramas, and that’s saying something. A rich alcoholic playboy (Robert Stack) and his libertine sister (Dorothy Malone) form a love quadrangle with his best friend (Rock Hudson) and a fetching secretary (Lauren Bacall). Jealousy, infertility, self-loathing, depression, mistrust, resentment, murder, and courtroom drama ensue. Guess what triumphs in the end? -LG
