Very few films bear genuine punk cred, but Alex Cox’s debut does. Emilio Estevez’s aimless lunk drifts away from the dumbass SoCal hardcore scene and into a crew of legal car thieves, who provide him a few bucks, something like direction, even a philosophy, the latter courtesy dirtbag bodhisattva Harry Dean Stanton. Vicious, cynical, wicked funny, downright miraculous.
