Not as capital-”g” Great as Citizen Kane, but just as skilled and way more fun. Charlton Heston plays a Mexican (!) narcotics cop investigating a cross-border murder that drags him and his new gringa wife (Janet Leigh) into a world of trouble. Director Orson Welles not only conjures a memorable milieu of sleaze and corruption, he casts himself in a meaty role as the corrupt cop at its center. -Lee Gardner
